  Jeremiah and the 70 years. Jewish exile or Babylonian rule?

  i have never until a few days ago been able to reconcile the 70 year prophecy with the 587/6 bce date for jerusalems destruction.

  although a post was about this in a previous thread by a@g , i would like to explore this more.. when the 70 years are applied to babylonian rule, rather than the jewish exile everything seems to make sense.. to ellaborate for those who haven't come across it, this is how 587/6 does match the 70 year prophecy.. i hope a@g doesn't mind but i have cut and paste his post:-.

  the 587 date does match the bible.... (jeremiah 25:11) 11 and all this land must become a devastated place, an object of astonishment, and these nations will have to serve the king of babylon seventy years.".

  The good thing about Carl O Jonsson’s book is the exposure of the society who try to falsify quotations from experts in the field of the subject matter. What I liked was the fact that Jonsson took the time to write to the experts that the society quoted, and asked them if their quotation in the societies literature was an accurate rendition of the statements that they made. What was interesting was their reply and how indignant they were at being so badly misquoted by the society.

  It really is a good example of how desperate the society are and the lengths that the society will go to in order to hold onto 607.

  The thing to remember about Jonsson’s work is the fact that these discoveries were made by him while he was a faithful and dedicated JW.

  But a very interesting and informative book to read and a great exposure of how the society lie by misquoting the experts they choose to quote….

  The only comparison I can think of is that if you are in a JW family, you would have to hide the literature from other family members, and read it in secret.

  How can I know for sure that the WTS isn't God's organization?

  one day i'm like, "suppress your gay feelings and what you think is wrong about this organization and keep going forward because you want eternal life and all of your friends are here and it's as close to the truth as it can possibly get so just deal with it.

  The lure of everlasting life is what blinds such ones as DO and CO from the truth of matters.

  Faith seems to be one of the biggest distracters of truth and facts. It causes such delusion in people and cuts off reasoning abilities. But this faith is what a DO or CO would be riddled with, that is why they are so blind to things…..

  Misleading advice at the Hall.

  words of wisdom at the kingdom hall went something like " don't marry for looks because looks fade.

  " what i want to know is if the person you married turns out to be a crabby old miserable so and so how do you cope with ugly personality plus ugly looks.i mean if you marry a looker at least you have enjoyed some vision of delight, if you get stuck with both you are in a double bind.

  Marry whoever you have that "animal" feeling for, no matter what he or she, looks like.

  What happens when that ‘animal feeling' gives you the feeling that the other person is a rhino…..??

  The Long Road To Forgiveness

  so many of us have suffered so much here in our experience with the watchtower cult and at the hands of others.

  this afternoon's segment of npr's this i believe reminds us of the liberating power of forgiveness.

  i heard it on the drive home and wanted to share it here with you.

  Letting go of anger and forgiving don't necessarily have to go hand-in-hand.

  I was under the impression that what forgiveness means is to let go of the anger.

  I am sure that even if you have achieved forgiveness in your life, if you think about the situation you would feel anger and that it would be appropriate. But it is the letting go of the anger and resentment that was achieved with the state of forgiveness........??

  Don't quote me on this. I struggled with this point for years...........

  Edit to add:

  My philosophy was more:-

  "forgive us our trespasses, but eliminate those that trespass against us".

  Wouldn’t be out of place with the god of the OT would it……..??

  Have they recognized the wrongness of their actions and repented?

  Is that really important in the process of forgiveness……? I thought that it was the letting go of the anger. The perpetrators may never repent, but to remain angry is only going to effect you to your detriment.

  Confession: a friend of mine who looks at this board is going to choke on his biscuit if he reads what I have just written. I don’t forgive nothing. I am the worst grudge holder. Not my best quality….

  Sorry for the hypocrisy. But my point is valid, even though I don’t live by it………

  keep this one fact in mind about jehovah's witnesses.

  they exist in three parts throughout their history.. 1. honest bible students attracted to the gimmicks of russell (charts, graphs, chronologies, pyramid inches, etc.

  ) expected the end of the world to come and they wanted to know more.. 2.contrarian hard heads under rutherford wanted to prove everybody was wrong about everything except themselves.

  I agree with a lot of people who have posted. I don’t think that the societies theology is all that important to your average JW these days.

  I have worked for a few of them recently, and have engaged them in conversation about their theology, and I just kept getting a shrugged shoulder response.

  One told me that he wasn’t worried about how the society works out all the dates because that was the GB’s responsibility to Jehovah to get those right. Didn’t bother these ones that dates have changed, and I would say that the common reason why they didn’t worry was because they were more worried about remaining faithful so as to not lose out on everlasting life. In both the cases that I am referring to, both brothers would reiterate out loud that "it is the truth, I know it is the truth". Then they would go on to say that there is no one else that is doing the preaching work, and things alike…..It was more to convince themselves than it was me…very perplexing behaviour……….

  Wrong dates and changed teaching will soon not hold any weight with a JW. Hitting the criteria is taking over as the most predominant part of their teaching. That and not asking questions…..Total mind lock…..

  My Huge Phobia of flying!! Damn the Wright Brothers!!

  i was supposed to fly tommorrow but i put off booking the tickets....and now i've chickened out and will take an 11 hour train ride all night...compared to 1 hour flight.

  i have butterflys in my stomach and i can't relax.

  i don't trust airplanes or pilots!

  I read somewhere that the only reason why they put you in the crash position is so that they can identify you after the crash, because your body would stand a chance of staying in one piece and they could work out who you were through your dental records……..Nice………

  The first plane I ever went up in, I jumped out of. I did a parachute jump when I was younger. I didn’t actually land in a plane till I was about 20. But I must say that I was more nervous about going up in a plane without a parachute than with.

  Not too keen on flying but it must be a nightmare if you have a phobia…………
